Once again, I have fallen behind on my blogs but I thought I would finish the year with one more. Next year will be different and I have lots to show everyone throughout the year as we have some exciting changes happening, so we are finishing off our blog room series.

Having an office in your home is a great idea with many people changing their working habits. Working from home for a couple of days each week is more common for adults. Some businesses are run from home so having that clean and tidy office space is a must. Our children can enjoy the space to be able to study or do their homework.

There are a few different ways in which home offices work in the home. You can have a separate room or a little nook within the living area. Depending on the space will depend on how creative you can be with storage and layout. If you have the option to be able to put an office or study nook into your new build or renovation think about the following; storage, colours, lighting and styling.

Storage – Home offices need to be well organised just like any other office. Having great storage whether this is drawers, cupboards or floating shelves having something to put things somewhere is always needed. You need to be able to put stuff away to give yourself a clean space to work. Think about how this will work for you type of work, how much storage do you need. More storage is always good storage in my opinion.

Colours – Wall colours can be the same as the rest of the house if you want. Some people are starting to put feature walls behind the desk. Whether this is a wallpaper, paint or a finished wall product it all adds character and personality to the space. Think about your desk and whether this is something you have purchased or getting custom made how does the colours work with in your space. Dark and moody or light and bright.

Lighting – I believe task lighting is a big tick for office spaces, you need to be able to see what you are doing. You could use a desk lamp or have a LED Strip under some upper cabinets or floating shelf. I think this is definitely needed so you can see what you are working on. Although their will be some sort of recessed ceiling light, sometimes in study nooks you are tucked in a corner where the lighting isn’t always the best.

Styling – You can do so much with they type of styling you do, if you have open shelves that are mainly for styling items you can have books, candles, plants etc laid out nicely. This is a space where you can do some beautiful styling. If you have no shelves above the desk but you want to have some styled areas on your desk, think about how much space the items will take up. You need to make sure its still practical for what you need to be doing.

Home Offices or Study nooks are a part of our lives now, whether you work from home, study at home or just want the space, offices can be so beautiful and well designed. Even children are asking for them more in their bedrooms and that is something I am all for. Create a space that inspires you to work well, feel great and enjoy what you do.
